Fallon assistant police chief position filled

Mayor Ken Tedford and the City Council upgraded the priority for naming a new assistant as soon as the tax shift eased. The Council approved David Lutter, 45, of Adams County, Colo., for the job.
Tedford said the chief is never off duty and can be called back at any time. He said the assistant will help cover the management position, give Chief Don Phipps him some relief and offer somebody off whom to bounce ideas.
Lutter has worked with the sheriff's department in his home county for 24 years, moving up through the ranks from patrol deputy to undersheriff. Tedford said the area 25 miles from Denver is similar in many respects to Churchill County.
