Letter: Penthouse publisher’s exhibit was a success at art museum
Sunday, March 22, 1998 | 9:30 a.m.
I have been wanting to write regarding SUN columnist Scott Dickensheets, who writes derogatory things about the Las Vegas Art Museum. No facts -- just his own warped opinion. Does he have credentials as an art critic? Probably not.
Hundreds of volunteers have worked very hard since 1950 to bring art exhibits, competitions, demonstrations and art classes to people of all ages and walks of life in Southern Nevada. They rejoiced with us and offered help and donations when we were allowed the use of the beautiful building at 9600 W. Sahara Ave.
We have just finished a successful year under the direction of James Mann, the first professional curator we have had, and with the help of a great board of directors and many volunteers and businesses. It isn't easy.
In the March 10 Accent section, another diatribe appeared by Dickensheets against the museum's new exhibit, telling how bad Bob Guccione and his art is. This, in spite of a tremendously successful opening reception and acceptance by the public.
Dickensheets has a column on page two of the newspaper where he trashes celebrities and others just like the scandal sheets do. So I guess we will just have to ignore what he says and hope it's true that "everything that goes around comes around." The Las Vegas Art Museum is going to be around for a long time, in spite of him.
