Letter: Creationism is just as valid as evolution
Sunday, March 22, 1998 | 9:30 a.m.
In response to Mel Lipman's March 8 letter, "Religious beliefs have no place in public schools," I consider evolution to be as much a theory as creationism. No one can prove either theory to be factual.
While many scientists say that there is so much evidence to prove the validity of evolution, there are also many scientists who have found substantial evidence to prove the creationist theory. My point is that both theories should be taught in schools. Isn't that the job of teachers? Don't we want our children to explore theories for themselves and discover the truths from that?
Creationism is a scientific theory, not just a religious belief. The problem is that one side or the other feels it will lose power if it allows the other theory to exist. Let's start teaching our kids how to think for themselves and not what to think. Given the proper tools, they will find the truth.
