SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
Las Vegas brothers Ed, Tim and Troy Herbst lead a group of 14 Southern Nevada desert racers to Mexico for Saturday's 12th Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 off-road race.
While many know of the quaint fishing village of San Felipe on the Sea of Cortez side of the Baja California peninsula as a favorite party place for college students, it will be anything but a "spring break" this weekend as racers compete in 23 classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs in Round 2 of the 1998 Laughlin SCORE Desert Series.
David Ashley and Dan Smith, both from Riverside, Calif., will drive their No. 8 Ford F-150 for just the second time in the featured Trophy Truck division, hoping their victory in the season opener in Laughlin will help them hold off a field of 10 racers in SCORE's marquee racing class.
Among the other Trophy Truck entries are Ed and Tim Herbst, who will split driving time in the No. 19 Ford F-150. The Herbsts finished second last season in Trophy Truck points.
