Letter: Dogs, children ride loose in truck beds
Friday, March 20, 1998 | 1:40 a.m.
When I first moved here I was shocked to see dead dogs lying on the side of Interstate 95. Most likely these are dogs that are riding loose in the back of pickup trucks that have fallen out or have been thrown out from an accident to their deaths. I was so thankful that I had not seen these tragic situations for awhile until last week when I spotted another dead dog lying on I-95. Are people so careless and lazy that they cannot set up the proper restraints to keep their dogs securely fastened?
Every time I see another car that has a dog hanging out the window or a dog riding loose in the bed of a truck, my heart sinks at this carelessness. I guess the only thing that bothers me even more than this is seeing children riding in the back of pickup trucks without any restraints.
This is supposed to be illegal. I would like to see our politicians and police officers get together and start enforcing this law.
