Ultralight aircraft crashes near Jean
Monday, March 16, 1998 | 11:37 a.m.
An ultralight aircraft crash-landed today in a dirt field near the Jean airport off U.S. 91 about 35 miles southwest of Las Vegas.
The small plane had one passenger and a pilot on board, Steve La-SKy, spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department, said.
The pilot, Harold Hueth of Las Vegas, escaped injury. The passenger, Adam Albert, also from the Las Vegas Valley, was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit with a back injury. The landing gear and tail were damaged in the crash, La-Sky said.
The pilot had just taken off and was about 300 feet in the air just before 9 a.m. when the engine sputtered twice and stalled, La-Sky said.
"He tried to make the dry lake bed and couldn't," he said. "He ended up landing it in a dirt field."
Both the pilot and passenger were wearing helmets.
