Seasonal note: 12 hours from sunrise to sunset
Monday, March 16, 1998 | 7:22 a.m.
Winter-weary Nevadans who are looking for a sign of spring before it officially arrives later this week can take some hope from Tuesday.
Give a few seconds here and there, the days and the nights are the same length.
The longest day of the year won't come until summer beings in June. But even before Friday's start of spring, the days and nights each are 12 hours.
Sunrise Tuesday in Las Vegas is 5:49 a.m. Sunset is 5:50 p.m. In Reno, which is much farther west, sunrise is 6:07 a.m. and sunset, 6:08 p.m.
Elko is exactly 12 hours, from 5:51 a.m. to 5:51 p.m. Winnemucca also is a dozen hours of daylight, from 5:59 a.m. to 5:59 p.m. Ely gets a little more, from 5:47 in the morning to 5:48 in the afternoon.
