El Nino will give Las Vegans something to sneeze about

Monday, March 16, 1998 | 9:10 a.m.

The experts say heavy rains in January and February, combined with warmer weather in March, means mulberry trees throughout the Las Vegas Valley will be producing record levels of pollen.

February was the wettest on record for that month, with 2.89 inches of rain.

Fred Bachhuber, a UNLV scientist who studies pollen and spores, says plants are going to find themselves in an ideal situation and "go crazy."

"This is not the place to be if you have an allergy," he said.
