Obituaries for March 12, 1998

Beatrice Beck, 87, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 1, 1910, in New York. A longtime resident, she was an office manager.

She is survived by one son, Mike Beck, and one daughter, Doris Beck, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Helen Berger of Florida; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson.

HARRY RICE BRAZELL

Harry Rice Brazell, 80, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local health care center. He was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Kentucky. A resident for 65 years, he was a dry cleaner and a World War II veteran.

He is survived by four sons, Norman and Ronald, both of Las Vegas, Richard of Arizona, and Harry of Kansas; and one daughter, Ann Love of Kentucky.

DONALD RAY CALDWELL

Donald Ray Caldwell, 59, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 12, 1939, in La Grange, Texas. A resident for one year, he was employed by Yellow Cab in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah of California; four sons, Donald Ray Caldwell Jr., Darrell Caldwell, Earl Caldwell and Jason Caldwell, all of California; four daughters, Brenda Barksdale Caldwell of Las Vegas and Jacqueline Caldwell, Charity Caldwell and Andrea Caldwell, all of California; his mother, Mamie Caldwell, and one sister, Patricia Caldwell, both of Texas; four brothers, Valcul Caldwell of Georgia, Melvin Douglas Caldwell and Curmel Caldwell, both of Texas, and Louis Caldwell of California; and 17 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

CASEY BRUCE COX

Casey Bruce Cox, 39, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 10, 1958, in California. A resident for 37 years, he was a telemarketer.

He is survived by one daughter, Sassie Ann Cox, one brother, Christopher Michael Cox, and one sister, Kelly Farrell, all of Las Vegas.

Graveside services were scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Woodlawn Cemetery. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, handled arrangements.

ARDITH P. DAVIS

Ardith P. Davis, 74, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 48 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons, John R. Davis of Sandpoint, Idaho, Steven A. Davis of Las Vegas and Richard P. Davis of Denver; one sister, LaVora Davis of Hayden, Idaho; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m.-noon Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

DOROTHY L. DOUGLASS

Dorothy L. Douglass, 80, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Albuquerque, N.M. A resident for 35 years, she was a retired accounting clerk for the Clark County School District, a member of the Eastern Star Daylite and Northstar and Daughters of the Nile.

She is survived by one son, Richard L. Stone of Las Vegas; one daughter, Patricia J. Huckfeldt of Denver; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Masonic Hall on East Charleston Boulevard. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

JOHN JACOB DRUSCHEN

John Jacob Druschen, 71, of Las Vegas died March 5 in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 14, 1926, in New York. A resident for five years, he was in public relations at Reader's Digest and a member of the Grand National Club.

He is survived by his wife, Astri; one daughter, Judy Davis; one brother, Howard; one sister, Jane Downing; and four grandchildren.

LYNNE ENGELHARDT

Lynne Engelhardt, 84, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 13, 1913, in St. Joseph, Mo. A resident for 37 years, she was a retired hotel banquet waitress, a French chef in Oregon and California, a nurse in California and a member of Culinary Union 226.

She is survived by one daughter, Zanna Reh of Las Vegas; one son, Ronald Arthur Engelhardt of Oregon; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 1 p.m. services Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

RICHARD V. FAVELA

Richard V. Favela, 62, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. He was born Nov. 23, 1935, in Sloan. A lifelong resident, he was a retired laborer in the construction industry and a Marine Corps and Army veteran.

He is survived by three daughters, Danielle Crawford of Las Vegas and Patricia F. Niemeier and Claudia D. Favela, both of Henderson; his father, Miguel Favela, and two brothers, Arthur Favela and Michael Favela, all of Las Vegas; three sisters, Virginia Dora and Yolanda McClure, both of Las Vegas, and Irene Sidhu of Sacramento; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church. A private burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

CHARLES O. FESTER

Charles O. Fester, 73, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. A resident for 18 years, he was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Illinois.

He is survived by two sons, Glenn Fester of Las Vegas and Charles Fester of Dallas; one sister, Margaret George of Illinois; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

CHARLES HAMPTON III

Charles Hampton III, 28, of Las Vegas died March 2 in Tacoma, Wash. He was born May 9, 1969, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a cook in a fast-food restaurant.

He is survived by three daughters, Chelsea Hampton and Charlesa Hampton, both of Tacoma, and Christine Killian of Las Vegas; one son, Charles Hampton IV of Tacoma; his mother, Patsy Parker of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Latania Parson of Las Vegas and Melania Murphy of Galva, Ill.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in American Burial and Cremation Services. A private burial will follow.

LILLIAN BANKS IANDER

Lillian Banks Iander, 86, of Sacramento died Sunday in Sacramento. She was born April 29, 1911, in Georgia. A former resident of Las Vegas for 25 years, she was a retired clothing designer and a founding member of St. Mary the Virgin Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son, John Iander of Sacramento; one sister, Marion Lane Rogers of New York; and one grandchild.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 5485 E. Charleston Blvd. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

Robert E. Kemper, 39, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 13, 1958, in Indiana. A resident for 17 years, he was an automotive detailer.

He is survived by his wife, Debra; one son, Justin Kemper, one daughter, Kimberly Kemper, his parents, Raymond and Vivian Kemper, and one brother, Kenneth Kemper, all of Las Vegas.

Services were scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial followed in Boulder City Cemetery.

ROBERT LACY

Robert Lacy, 60, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born March 20, 1937, in Birmingham, Ala. A resident for 33 years, he was a 20-year real estate agent and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, David Lacy and Danny Lacy, and two daughters, Becky Bartoli and Jeanne Berry, all of Las Vegas; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MARGARETHE S. MARTIN

Margarethe S. Martin, 78, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. She was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Hannover, Germany. A resident for three months, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Kendrick; one son, Karl Kuester of St. Paul, Minn.; two daughters, Monika Biele of St. Paul and Hannah Ervig of Las Vegas; two brothers, Oto Manthei and Friedrich Manthei, and one sister, Liselotte Hillebrecht, all of Germany; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

FRANCIS P. MELHAM

Francis P. Melham, 62, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 21, 1935, in New Jersey. A longtime resident, he was a carpenter.

He is survived by one brother, Richard Melham of New Jersey.

ANTHONY PACHELLA

Anthony Pachella, 77, of Las Vegas died March 5 in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Hoboken, N.J. A resident for 10 years, he was a clothing warehouse worker and an Army veteran.

MARK BRANDON PERKINSON

Mark Brandon Perkinson, 90, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 17, 1907, in Nebraska. A resident for 5 1/2 years, he was a Boy Scout executive.

He is survived by three sons, John Perkinson, Ed Perkinson and Pete Perkinson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Helen E. Prather, 69, of Las Vegas died March 5 in North Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Houston. A resident for 23 years, she was a hospital dietitian.

She is survived by two sons, Rodney Muldrew of Houston and Michael Prather of Savannah, Ga.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be noon-8 p.m. Friday at American Burial & Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at American. Burial will be in California.

ROBERT F. REED

Robert F. Reed, 70, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 1, 1927, in Los Angeles. A resident for 29 years, he was a retired beverage company manager and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa; two daughters, Emily Johnson of Las Vegas and Anne Kottke of McHenry, Ill.; two sons, James Reed of Las Vegas and Robert Reed of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; two sisters, Martha Alderson of Petaluma, Calif., and Mary Gertz of Encino, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

GARY SCOTT ROBINSON

Gary Scott Robinson, 39, of Pleasanton, Calif., died Feb. 28 in the Veterans Hospital in Livermore, Calif. He was born Aug. 3, 1958, in Oakland, Calif. A former Las Vegas resident, he was in the gaming industry for five years in Reno, served in the Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base and attended Douglas High School in Gardnerville for one year.

He is survived by his parents, Ted and Deanna Robinson of Pleasanton; four brothers, David Robinson of Dublin, Calif., and Jeffrey Robinson, Johnathan Robinson and Justin Robinson, all of San Mateo, Calif.; and one niece, Sharona Robinson of Pleasanton.

No local services are scheduled. Callaghan Mortuary, Livermore, handled arrangements.

THERESA ARLENE SHERBONDY

Theresa Arlene Sherbondy, 49, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. She was born July 3, 1948, in Illinois. A resident for 11 years, she was a nursing assistant.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis; one son, Curtis Sherbondy II, and two daughters, Karen Sherbondy and Gina Sherbondy, all of Henderson; one brother, Marvin Richardson of California; one sister, Janet Parish of Alabama; and two grandchildren.

Charlie O. Snuggs, 77, of Lawton, Okla., died March 2 in a Lawton hospital. He was born March 11, 1920, in Ola, Ark. A former Las Vegas resident for 17 years, he was a retired Army sergeant first class and World War II and Korean War veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl; one son, Chuck of California; two daughters, Joyce Barney of Torrance, Calif., and Sally Kelly of Las Vegas; one sister, Bessie Garner of Rush Springs, Okla.; one brother, Richard of Mayflower, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

Norma M. Spiehs, 60, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Windsor, Ontario. A resident for 33 years, she was a retired keno manager.

She is survived by one daughter, Gina Justice, and one son, Ryan Spiehs, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Eileen Wolford and Gina Lucier, both of Windsor; and two grandchildren.

Morris Israel Wallach, 82, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. He was born May 18, 1915, in Overaller, Germany. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired salesman of imported wood products.

He is survived by three cousins, Rose Warren of Las Vegas, Senta Seligman of New York and Keith of Los Angeles.

ROBERT B. WHITTEN

Robert B. Whitten, 80, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 19, 1917, in Solon, Mich. A resident for 31 years, he was a truck driver.

He is survived by two daughters, Pennie Whitten-Viczko and Linda Stackhouse, and one son, Robert Whitten, all of Las Vegas; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

MARY WILLIAMS

Mary Williams, 68, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born May 30, 1929, in New Haven, Conn. A resident for 23 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Kaplan of Henderson; one sister, Kay Richardson of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; one brother, Ed Landry of New Haven; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
