Michigan K-Wings 2, Grand Rapid Griffins 1 (SO)
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--Shootout goals by Frederic Bouchard and Alex Galtcheniouk gave the Michigan K-Wings (29-30-7) a 2-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins (31-26-10) Thursday night before 10,644 at Van Andel Arena. K-Wings goalie Manny Fernandez, who stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced in regulation, shut out the Griffins on four shootout attempts. Both teams scored in the first period of regulation -- Greg Bullock for the Griffins at 1:17, and Michigan's Chris Tancill five minutes later. Derrick Smith of the K-Wings extended his point-scoring streak to five games with an assist on Tancill's goal. Patrick Lalime stopped 24 of 25 in the Grand Rapids goal.
Cleveland Lumberjacks 3, Orlando Solar Bears 1
ORLANDO--The Cleveland Lumberjacks (28-30-8) scored twice in the first period on their way to a 3-1 win over the Orlando Solar Bears Thursday in front of 5,517 at the Orlando Arena. Rusty Fitzgerald's second goal of the year, at 14:37 of the opening period, won the game. Dave Baseggio put Cleveland on the board at 9:43, and collected an assist on Burke Murphy's third-period tally. Mark Beaufait saved Orlando (33-24-9) from the shutout with his 18th goal of the season, at 13:02 of the second period. Winning goalie Derek Wilkinson finished with 35 saves on 36 Orlando shots. Allan Bester stopped six of nine before being replaced at 1:30 of the third period by David Littman, who made seven saves on as many chances.
