Concha, 49, has been deputy chief since 1994 and made most of the appearances representing the division at the 1997 Legislature. Concha, who lives in Reno, will earn $61,941.

The appointment was announced Wednesday by Don Denison, director of the state department of motor vehicles and public safety. He said Concha's insight and experience "will be a tremendous asset to the department."

The division, with a budget of about $23 million a year, makes recommendations to judges on sentences for those convicted of felonies and misdemeanors and supervises those on probation or parole.
