Wet winter bodes well for farmers

Lahontan Reservoir, which holds the water until it's needed, currently stands at 215,000 acre-feet. That's far below its capacity of 295,000 acre-feet, but provides a cushion for this year's runoff, which has barely begun.
The Truckee-Carson Irrigation District will start taking water orders and making deliveries once enough water has been collected to charge the system, the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle standard reported.
The irrigation season in the Lahontan Valley usually beings around the middle of March.
