Letter: Teen’s grief is no excuse for graffiti

While I feel great empathy with the girl, I still wonder what has happened to our culture that makes this kind of behavior acceptable. Graffiti is graffiti no matter what the reason is behind it. Where were the school police when this act of vandalism was taking place? Why do the reporters who cover this type of behavior not see anything wrong with it? Who will pay to remove the paint from a public school parking lot? Why has the girl not been charged with vandalism of school property?
A few months ago some other teens did the same thing on a public sidewalk and the press covered it as though the kids were heroic but tragic figures instead of the taggers they were. It seems to me a precedent is being set here.
The girl should receive a citation from Metro and her parents should pay the damages. I did not do the damage and my tax money should not be spent repairing the damage.
