Man charged in anthrax scare returned to Ohio

Tuesday, March 3, 1998 | 9:17 a.m.

Larry Wayne Harris left the Clark County Detention Center Monday.

Rod Robinson of the U.S. Marshals Service declined to say how Harris was being transported to Ohio or when he would arrive.

Harris and Logandale, Nev. businessman William Leavitt Jr. were arrested after an FBI informant said they told of having deadly anthrax in their possession. Charges were dismissed against the two men Feb. 23 after tests showed the material was harmless anthrax veterinary vaccine.

Leavitt was freed but Harris has remained in jail on probation violation charges from Ohio.

Harris, a resident of Lancaster, Ohio, was placed on an 18-month term of supervision in April for fraudulently obtaining bubonic plague toxins in 1995.
