Council chooses man who worked on recall petition as new member

Ms. Phillips made the motion last week to appoint Dunton to a vacancy on the council, even though Dunton was involved in a previous recall drive against her.

Dunton said despite the recall effort, he didn't see why they couldn't work together.

Ms. Phillips agreed.

Dunton was the only person to submit a written application for the post vacated by Devin Rattazzi, who resigned. The terms ends June 30.

Former Mayor George Chachas verbally applied for the appointment at Thursday's council meeting, but Dunton won the council's backing.

Voters booted Chachas as mayor midway through his term in 1994 and later denied him a seat on the White Pine County Commission. Last year, they ousted him from the City Council seat he won by appointment.
