Washoe school board discusses nutrition program deficit

Monday, March 2, 1998 | 8:28 a.m.

Board members on Thursday will decide whether to accept an employee proposal to run the program, hire an outside company or hire a new director.

The nutrition services department serves more than 20,000 meals daily.

Last year the program had a deficit of $157,000. The projected deficit this year is $300,000.

The department's money woes were publicized in a series of reports by the Reno Gazette-Journal that also alleged questionable management practices.

Acting Director Pat Marble was placed on administrative leave by Superintendent Mary Nebgen after employees claimed she retaliated against them for talking about the alleged abuses.
