The sheriff and his wife filed for bankruptcy Feb. 2 in Reno, listing a monthly income of $4,320, personal property worth $28,927 and debts in excess of $100,000. No real property was listed.
Del Carlo declined comment. "I think that is my own business," he said.
According to the filing, Del Carlo will not seek re-election this year.
Among debtors listed were Lynne Mortensen and Louise Haynes, sheriff's department employees who have filed federal lawsuits against the county and sheriff for sexual harassment and sexual discrimination.
Neither woman accused Del Carlo of harrassment or discrimination, but they allege he didn't take proper action to stop the alleged offenses.
The bankruptcy filing included six pages of creditors, mostly credit card companies and unsecured bank loans totaling $76,096.
The family's earnings were listed as $88,351 in 1997, $71,669 in 1996 and $83,881 in 1995.
