"We will never completely win the war against domestic violence in Nevada until we have a coordinated effort every step of the way from protection orders to prosecution tactics," Reid said. "Too often women who have been battered or abused get lost in the system and don't realize the wide variety of services which may be available to them."
The STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grants Program promotes a coordinated approach to improving the criminal justice system's response to violence against women. It was authorized by the Violence Against Women Act, which was part of the 1994 crime bill.
STOP stands for services, training, officers and prosecutors.
The grant will complement the more than $2.5 million in federal funding Nevada has already received this year under the act.
"What this ultimately will mean is better prevention and protection for the victims of domestic violence," Bryan said.
The Democratic senators said Nevada plans to use the funds to expand victim services, increase the number of victim advocates in police departments and improve sexual assault response training for police officers.
