Las Vegas Stars scorecard — June 26, 1998
Friday, June 26, 1998 | 9:29 a.m.
To put it simply, Stars right-hander Brian Tollberg is on a roll. Tollberg, who was sent down to double-A Mobile after compiling a so-so 1-1 record and 4.80 ERA in 15 games out of the bullpen, made it five straight starts in which he has allowed just one run Thursday night in helping pitch the Stars past Omaha, 6-1, at Cashman Field. Tollberg gave up just six hits and one earned run in 8 1/3 innings, walking one while sriking out seven. It was his first triple-A start, but fifth overall since being returned to Mobile on June 2 to make room on the roster for Eddie Williams. In his four Mobile starts, Tollberg compiled a 2-1 record with a 1.24 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 29 innings, including a double-A best 15 K's in a 5-1 win over Knoxville. "He just went out there and dominated a pretty good team," Stars manager Jerry Royster said. "I liked everything he did out there. He pitched aggressively with all of his pitches. He wasn't out there trying to waste pitches." "The main thing is that I just went out there and threw strikes," Tollberg said. "And I enjoy being able to start. That's something I've done my whole life." ... The Stars' two All-Star choices, Dave Hajek and George Arias, were a combined 0-for-8 in the victory. ... Center fielder Chris Prieto and shortstop Juan Melo both had two RBIs for the Stars while first baseman Dusty Allen had three hits and scored two runs.
Upcoming games
The Stars begin a four-game roadtrip in Tucson tonight. Left-hander Heath Murray (4-4, 3.77), who has missed his last two starts because of elbow soreness, will start tonight for Las Vegas against Sidewinder lefty Chris Michalak. The Stars return home to Cashman Field on Tuesday night when they host former Green Valley High star Chad Hermanson and the Nashville Sounds for four games.
