She's the fourth high-ranking official to leave Washoe County government in the past two months. She follows the county manager, the community development director and the management information services director.
Bailey, 69, said she wants to enjoy life and maybe do some traveling.
Her successor in the $66,000-a-year job said she, too, is retiring.
The County Commission named Chief Deputy County Clerk Betty Lewis to assume her boss' job July 11.
Lewis said she will stay on until a new clerk is elected in November, but will retire in January after 27 years in the clerk's office.
