Letter: Berkley should not apologize for truth about lobbyists

Tuesday, June 16, 1998 | 9:05 a.m.

Why does Shelley Berkley feel she must apologize for telling the truth? Is anyone here naive enough to believe that it is what you know, not who and how much?

What do lobbyists do except buy politicians? Isn't that common knowledge? Why do the casinos contribute to political campaigns? Does anyone doubt that it's because they feel they will get their money's worth?

Sheldon Adelson is unique if he refrains from bribing those in power. Most of the casinos have no qualms about buying favoritism.

If you dispute this, check back, for instance, on some of the laws passed by the legislators, especially those favoring the casinos vs. the injured workers. Virtually all the rights of the injured workers have been taken away. Pure coincidence? Get real!
