SHOELESS JOE WINS AGAIN -- "Damn Yankees" is the first musical in Super Summer's 1998 season. The long-running hit tells the story of a middle-aged baseball fan, who sells his soul to the devil for the chance to pitch and hit his beloved Washington Senators to a pennant. Gates at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park open at 6 p.m. for performances at 8 today and Saturday. Tickets are available at UNLV's Ham Hall box office, 895-3801; Prestige Travel at 9101 W. AFRICAN-AMERICAN MUSIC MONTH -- Ricky Arroyo and the Latin Percussion Ensemble bring their invigorating Afro-Cuban rhythms to the West Las Vegas Library, 751 W. Lake Mead Blvd., at 7 today as African-American Music Month continues. The concert is suitable for the whole family, and admission is free.

SAX IN THE OPEN AIR -- Saxophone great Kenny Garrett brings his quartet to the third free Jazz in the Park concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. Garrett topped the Down Beat readers' poll in 1996 as Alto Saxist of the Year, and was named Rolling Stone's Hot Jazz Artist. The recognition came after a career of almost two decades that began when he joined the Duke Ellington Orchestra at age 18. Nate Tannenbaum hosts the show. The amphitheater features lawn seating, so bring a chair or blanket.

JAZZ IN GREEN VALLEY -- A free outdoor jazz concert by Coalition in Concert will be 8-10 p.m. Saturday in the Fountain Courtyard of Green Valley Town Center, 4500 E. Sunset Road. The event is part of Green Valley's summer concert series.

MUSIC AND MORE -- "The Big Gathering of Vibes," at noon Saturday at Legends Lounge, brings together musicians, poets and artists to benefit WorldFolk Magazine, Radio and Theater. Among the performers are Nimrod, Jabarri Style, The Groovy Guru and 18 other acts. Admission is $3 at the door.

EAST ST. LOUIS STYLE -- African storyteller Oba King hosts a concert by the Katherine Dunham Museum Children's Workshop Dance Company at 2 p.m. Saturday in the theater at West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Well-trained youths, ages 7-17, dance a program which includes original Katherine Dunham choreography and authentic rhythms of Haitian, Senegalese and other cultures. Admission is free, however, tickets are required to guarantee seats. Call 229-4800.

GONE FISHIN' -- Kids bait their hooks and cast their lines in Sunset Park Lake, 2601 E. Sunset Road, to compete for prizes at Clark County Parks and Recreation's free Children and Teen Fishing Derby. Saturday's derby is open to everyone 17 and younger, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. in the pavilion on the south side of the lake. The derby runs from 8 a.m.-noon. Fishing licenses will not be required, as Saturday in Nevada Free Fishing Day. Participants must furnish their own fishing gear, bait and tackle. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: ages 1-12, ages 13-17, and special populations.

BREWING UP IN SUMMERLIN -- The Las Vegas International MicroBrew Festival will be 1-9 p.m. Saturday in Trent Park, 1600 N. Rampart Blvd., with more than 100 handcrafted and international beers, bratwurst, reggae group Dread Zeppelin, Home Cookin' and The Ruffnecks. Tickets are $20 at Mr. Bill's Pipe and Tobacco shops; $24 at the door. Designated drivers come in for $5 and get complimentary nonalcoholic drinks.
