A new warden is taking over as head of the Nellis Federal Prison Camp at Nellis Air Force Base.
On Monday, Glenn Trammel takes over the reins from Warden Robert Harrow, said Don West, public information officer for the 31-acre minimum-security prison camp. The prison camp currently houses 378 federal inmates.
Trammel previously worked as associate warden at the federal penitentiary in Lompoc, Calif., which is a maximum-security prison with about 1,200 beds, West said.
Harrow has been transferred to a higher-level institute in Miami. Harrow served as warden at the Nellis prison for two years. He's started his new job at the Federal Detention Center three weeks ago, West said.
"When you go to a bigger institution, it's like a promotion," West said. "It's a prestigious position."
One-quarter of the prisoners at the Nellis prison camp are serving time for white-collar crimes, such as extortion, bribery or fraud, and the majority for drug or liquor offenses. Inmates work on base and live in dormitory-type housing, West said.
