Neonopolis forces residents, businesses to relocate
Friday, June 12, 1998 | 8:16 a.m.
The City Centre Development Corp., a downtown redevelopment board made of area business people, has budgeted between $130,000 and $150,000 to pay for the relocation on those residents and businesses.
The process will start next month, according to Steve Oliver from Pacific Relocation consultants in California. Oliver's firm was hired by CCDC to take care of the relocation procedures for a consulting fee of about $25,000.
"We should be OK with the time frame (of the project)," Oliver said Wednesday. "We can start the 90-day notices to vacate with the board's approval."
The cost of relocation for residents and businesses is determined by federal and state laws and depends on the type of move, how long the person or business was at the original location and how soon the move occurs.
Neonopolis is a shopping and entertainment complex at the northwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street and should be completed by the year 2000.
The city of Las Vegas is contributing $14 million to the project by helping with relocation and constructing a parking garage underneath the center.
