Letter: Mesquite is indeed becoming an oasis away from Las Vegas
Friday, June 12, 1998 | 10:24 a.m.
In addition to four top-flight golf courses with another planned, there are other attractions. The city is building a $5 million recreation center and a new $300,000 animal shelter. There are five parks, with five more on the books.
We have three ballfields with intent to light two more at the high school. Our sewer plant is state-of-the-art, the best in Nevada. The effluent water is used for the golf courses. A new urgent-care facility has been built. Our arts council is very active, bringing outstanding productions. The Vienna Choir Boys will be on the program this season for the second time.
With modern technology enabling home offices, we have even attracted South Africans to locate here.
The town is in a beautiful desert setting of pink sand hills enhanced by lavender mountains, and "a river runs through it!" We do not need a running of the bulls event appealing to blood lust in such a place.
