Las Vegas man indicted for insurance fraud

Friday, June 12, 1998 | 4:12 a.m.

The indictment alleges that Arthur Jay Rosenthal, a one-time owner of AJ's Fitness Center, had reported his 1988 Cadillac with the personalized licensed plate "SHAPEUP" stolen from the Lake Mead Marina on July 22, 1990.

Allstate Insurance Co. then paid $37,931 to the leasing agency.

An investigation found that Rosenthal had Ronald Langer Rose of Encino, Calif., come to Las Vegas and drive the car to his home in Encino, where the vehicle remained until a search warrant was served in December 1994.

The indictment accuses Rosenthal and Rose of conspiring to commit insurance fraud.

The two will be arraigned on July 6 before District Court Judge Michael L. Douglas.
