Two pupils punished for threats

Thursday, June 11, 1998 | 11:19 a.m.

A Wooster High pupil was found delinquent and placed on probation for harassment after a psychological evaluation determined that he was not likely to carry out his threat.

He allegedly said he was going to "take out" 50 kids at an assembly to put Reno on the map, according to Wooster Principal Serena Robb.

An Incline Village pupil accused of writing a threatening letter is free until his next court date but is being monitored electronically and has been told to stay away from school.

The pupil is the son of a Washoe County sheriff's deputy who is being disciplined for allegedly hampering the investigation of his son. A psychological evaluation also determined that the boy is not likely to go ahead with his threat to start killing people.

Although neither warning apparently had any grounds, Deputy Washoe County District Attorney Sue Edmondson said she took them seriously.

"Certainly, when events such as what happened at the various schools across the country happen, it's cause for alarm," she said. "I treat them as if they're going to happen."
