Soggy weather pushes streams to their banks

Thursday, June 11, 1998 | 11:20 a.m.

The weather service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for The Reno-Carson City-Minden area along the U.S. 395 corridor and for the Lake Tahoe Basin through 9 p.m.

The advisory also includes Mineral and southern Lyon counties in Nevada as well as Lassen, Mono and eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties in California.

Forecasters said any flooding will be restricted to low-lying areas and to small streams and drainages.

The only river that's running high is the Humboldt, which is a few inches below flood stage at Palisade, between Elko and Winnemucca. It's not expected to overflow in the next day or so.

The unsettled weather will continue into the weekend with a chance of afternoon showers and thundershowers Friday and Saturday across the north followed by clearing skies and warming temperatures on Sunday and Monday.
