Legislative Building formally dedicated

Assembly Speaker Joe Dini, D-Yerington, said the June 9 dedication date was selected because it's the same date the Nevada Capitol was dedicated in 1870 and the original Legislative Building in 1970.
The project added a new facade and 80,000 square feet to the Legislative Building.
During the ceremony conducted by the Masons of Nevada, symbols and documents of the day were placed in a metal box behind the cornerstone. Included were a map of Nevada, a manual of the Legislature, a book on the Capitol, a list of all legislators since 1861, a Carson City silver dollar, Masonic items, and a CD-ROM with the statutes of Nevada.
Dini pointed out the expanded building replaces a Legislative Building whose odd rock facade made it widely known as the "ugliest building in Carson City."
The project's price tag was about five times the cost of the original building.
