Elko General Hospital changed hands on Wednesday when Commission Chairman Mike Naninni signed the papers that turned it over to Province Healthcare.
Province plans to build a new 75-bed hospital. Site selection is underway and the new facility should be in place in about 2 1/2 years.
Naninni said some employees could be leaving as early as this week, although Province has not announced plans for any layoffs.
Province also is donating $500,000 to the Elko Senior Citizen Center.
