Large section of western Nevada and Sierra under flood watch

Monday, June 8, 1998 | 10:30 a.m.

The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. for Washoe, Pershing, Churchill, Storey, Lyon, Douglas and Mineral counties and Carson City in Nevada as well as the California counties of Mono and the eastern sections of Modoc, Lassen, Plumas, Sierra, Nevada, Placer, El Dorado and Alpine counties.

Along with an ongoing chance of rain, soils are saturated and small streams are running near bank full from two days of heavy showers.

National Weather Service forecasters said the main rivers weren't in immediate danger of flooding, but the possibility of high water existed along small streams and drainages.
