A Bechtel Nevada employee was hospitalized overnight after falling rock and soil hit his hard hat at the Nevada Test Site, breaking the man's nose, officials said. The employee, whose name was not released, was part of a construction crew working underground in the U-1a facility late Thursday morning when the accident happened. The man was reported to be conscious when medical help arrived, and was transported by Flight for Life to University Medical Center. He listed later in the day as serious but stable. Bechtel Nevada spokeswoman Cheryl Oar said the employee was being kept overnight for observation. The U-1a facility is where tunnels are made for subcritical testing.
