A Las Vegas man has been indicted by the grand jury on multiple felony charges in connection with a two-car crash in the Maryland Parkway-Oakey Boulevard intersection last month that killed a woman and her grandson.
Guillermo Fellove, 53, is scheduled for arraignment June 10 in District Court 6 on charges of two counts each of involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Fellove is additionally facing a single charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance which Metro Police identified as cocaine.
If convicted, he could be facing as much as 40 years in prison. Fellove remained in custody this morning in Clark County Detention Center with bail set at $7 million.
Metro Police were unable to find a driver's license in Fellove's possession during its investigation that started about 9 a.m. May 13, shortly after the tragic crash outside Bishop Gorman High School.
Police had been tailing a speeding driver in a gold Chevy Cavalier for several miles that morning, and were within a block of catching it when the vehicle blasted through a 15-mph school zone along northbound Maryland Parkway and through a red light, ramming into the victims' black Chevy Celebrity, police said.
Hilda Aarenau, 63, of Las Vegas was killed instantly behind the Celebrity's wheel. Her grandson, Aviezer Aarenau, 5, was rushed to Sunrise Hospital's pediatric intensive care unit and later died. The grandmother was wearing her seat belt; the grandson was strapped into a car seat.
Fellove, who was conscious and talking at the crash site, underwent surgery at University Medical Center before being jailed.
Numerous 911 calls flooding the dispatch center while Metro was in pursuit claimed the Cavalier -- later identified as the car Fellove was allegedly driving -- was out of control, running stop signs, and reaching speeds in excess of 60 mph, Sgt. Curt Albert said.
Witnesses reported seeing the Cavalier speeding as far away as Spring Mountain and Industrial roads minutes before the fatal crash, police said.
