County Commission approves naming of Sinatra Drive
Wednesday, June 3, 1998 | 10:27 a.m.
A proposed frontage road that would run parallel to Interstate 15 has been named Frank Sinatra Drive -- the name preferred by the legendary crooner's widow, Barbara Sinatra. The Clark County Commission made the unanimous decision Tuesday morning, during an unusually short meeting that ended at 10:15, about an hour after it had begun.
The suggestion to name the $40 million access road that would run from Russell to Spring Mountain roads was made by Commissioner Lorraine Hunt, who used to watch Sinatra's rehearsals from backstage.
The project's cost will be shared by Clark County, the Nevada Department of Transportation and the hotel-casinos on the west side of the Strip that will benefit from the drive.
