Tropicana culinary workers approve contract
Tuesday, June 2, 1998 | 11:59 a.m.
Culinary Worker Local 226 members at the Tropicana hotel-casino overwhelmingly approved a contract Friday by a 614-1 vote.
About 1,100 Culinary Union workers are represented at the Tropicana.
Terms of the contract generally mirror those that were approved at other Strip properties this spring. Terms of the Tropicana agreement call for a 25-cent per hour raise retroactive to June 1 of last year with an hourly increase of 30 cents in 1998 and 1999 with a 35 cent increase the two subsequent years.
The contract allows establishment of 401(k) retirement funds in addition to the union pension fund, though neither the company nor the union will make contributions to the 401(k) funds. The union still faces negotiations with other Strip properties such as the Riviera, Maxim, Stardust and Stratosphere.
