Former Clark County Sheriff John Moran has come out in support of candidate Bobby Hitt in this year's sheriff's race.
In an open letter to "our friends in Clark County," Moran endorsed Hitt, his former lieutenant, describing him as "a person of high moral fiber and ... the highest degree of honesty and integrity."
Moran was sheriff from 1982-1994, serving also as former chief of police for the Las Vegas Police Department before the city and county departments merged to form Metro Police.
Hitt, 49, retired last July after 24 years with Metro, working in patrol, intelligence, the detective bureau, robbery, narcotics, criminalistics and internal affairs.
Also running in the race for sheriff are: incumbent Jerry Keller, 51, who won in 1994 against former sheriff Ralph Lamb; Chuck Lee, 61, former assistant chief investigator and retired Metro detective; Dirk Thomas, current sexual assault detective; John Powell, a former California police officer; Joe Castillo, George McLain, Ronald Moers and Caoimhin Ofearghail.
