Editorial: Las Vegas wants demolition action

Making matters worse is the prospect that city taxpayers could end up paying an additional $200,000 to get the ex-housing complex removed once and for all. Two years ago, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development department sold the troubled complex to a nonprofit developer for $1. In turn the developer was supposed to demolish the buildings with $448,000 from HUD. But as the Sun's Denise Cardinal reported last week, a series of disputes between a demolition company and HUD has left this complex standing, causing some residents to voice safety concerns.
Because of the void, the city is appropriately moving forward with plans to demolish the structure. And if the city has to spend taxpayer dollars to get rid of the former housing complex, it should sue to get back any money expended.
