City Council spending

How the Las Vegas City Council voted Monday to spend tax dollars:
* $471,288: To Leader Industries for three medium duty rescue vehicles to be used by the Las Vegas Fire Department to respond to emergency calls throughout the city. The present fleet has experienced an excessive amount of downtime because of maintenance and repairs, city officials said.
* $351,914: To Pierce Manufacturing Inc. for a 1,500-gallon-per-minute fire pumper to be used by the Las Vegas Fire Department. In all, the city has spent $1,352,049 for such equipment on this contract since it was awarded in November 1997.
* $47,316: To Vermeer of Southern Nevada for a trencher tractor to be used for maintenance of existing parks and ones that are under construction. The council rejected two lower bidders because they took exception to technical specifications required by the city.
* $37,898: To Davey Tree Expert Co. to supplement the annual contract for tree care services. This increases the amount spent on this contract to $282,176 since it was approved in December 1995.
* $24,869 To D&H Air Conditioning to upgrade the air conditioning system at the Central Fire Station. It will replace an old-fashioned evaporative cooler so that the upstairs area of the facility will be a little cooler.
* $10,500: To U.S. Foodservice for commissary supplies that will be used in the inmates' store at the city jail through June 30, 1999. The city recoups its money plus a small profit from the sale of the goods to the inmates.
