PROPOSED LAWS -- City of Las Vegas staff received the go ahead Monday from the City Council to send seven bill drafts to the Legislative Council Bureau for preparation for next year's 70th session of the Nevada Legislature. Among the package of bills is a proposal that would authorize the Municipal Court to enter a conviction or render judgment on simple misdemeanors for failure to appear. Other proposed law changes include removal of collection restrictions on and implementation of technological advancement for the Municipal Court as well as measures dealing with parking enforcement and street beautification.
CLASSROOM LEASE -- The Las Vegas City Council approved Monday a proposal to continue to lease at $1-a-month classroom space at the Stupak Center to the Clark County School District to help South Meadows Village residents receive high school diplomas or GEDs. Students ranging in age from 15-19 years old are given the opportunity to make up missing credits so they can graduate from high school. Adults receive similar instruction to receive GEDs through the program which is run by Horizon School and assisted by the city's Leisure Services Department.
