Sheriff's deputies there arrested Jad Joseph Fricke without incident around 3 a.m. Sunday, Sparks police said.
Fricke was being held pending extradition proceedings for his return to Nevada, officers said.
Fricke, 21, is charged in Nevada with attempted murder for the shooting of Priscilla Paulson.
Sparks police said Paulson was on the phone with a 911 emergency operator when she was shot several times at her apartment Saturday morning.
A friend, Heather Charter, was with the victim at the time of the shooting.
She told police that Fricke and Paulson had a fight the previous night, and that Fricke went to the apartment early Saturday to return some of Paulson's belongings.
Charter said Fricke went into Paulson's room and shot her in the chest and head.
Paulson was listed in critical but stable condition on Sunday at Washoe Medical Center.
