Letter: MASH programs not part of Catholic Charities

Wednesday, July 1, 1998 | 10:20 a.m.

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is the social service arm of the Catholic Church in Las Vegas. It operates 20 programs under names such as St. Vincent's, Meals on Wheels, Senior Companions and Regina Hall. Catholic Charities has been serving Southern Nevada since 1941.

MASH is not a part of Catholic Charities. MASH Village is a City of Las Vegas-owned and funded program operated for the city by SVDP Management Inc., which came to Las Vegas three years ago.

All of this can be confusing to the community and I am concerned at times that people may be supporting MASH Village believing they are supporting Catholic Charities and vice versa. Thank you for your assistance in helping to clear up this confusion.

Most Rev. Daniel F. Walsh, Bishop of Las Vegas, chairman of Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada
