SUN STAFF REPORTS

Culinary Union members have been unsuccessful in their attempts to shut down the Frontier Hotel.

But on Saturday, a union march is expected to shut down a large portion of LaB Vegas Boulevard for at least two hours.

It comes as the National Finale Rodeo gears up at the Thomas & Mack Center, bringing an estimated 175,000 people to town.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., union supporters will march north along the Strip from Reno Avenue to the Frontier, where they will stage a protest.

Organizers expect 15,000 to 20,000 people to march.

At different times during the procession, Metro Police and Nevada Highway Patrol officers will block off Tropicana Avenue, Flamingo Road, Harmon Avenue, Reno Avenue and Sands Avenue where the streets cross the Strip.

Parts of Koval Lane will also be' blocked at the Tropicana and Flamingo intersections.

Police suggest that motorists traveling north and south use Industrial Road, Paradise Road, Swenson Street or Maryland Parkway instead of the Strip.

Drivers going east ant west should use Sahara Avenue, St. Louis Avenue, Oakey Boulevard, Sunset Road or Warm Springs Road.

The Culinary Union has been on strike against the Frontier for 15 months.
