Indianapolis Ice 5, Michigan K-Wings 2
INDIANAPOLIS--Ryan Huska scored twice, including the game-winner 1:08 into the second period, to lead the Indianapolis Ice (22-24-3) past the Michigan K-Wings 5-2 Wednesday in front of 2,367 at Market Square Arena. The Ice's fourth win of the season over the K-Wings (20-21-7) left the teams tied for third place in the IHL Central Division. Brian Felsner, whose assist set up the deciding goal, also had a hand in a first-period tally by Petri Varis and Len Esau's power play goal in the third. Craig Mills rounded out the Indianapolis scoring. The K-Wings trailed 4-0 when Jeff Mitchell scored at 10:33 of the second period. Kevin Sawyer added a goal in the third period to cut the deficit to 4-2. Michigan took 20 shots, 18 of them saved by winning goalie Marc Lamothe. Jordan Willis stopped 27 of 32 in the losing effort.
Manitoba Moose 3, Cincinnati Cyclones 2
CINCINNATI--Jason Christie's goal at 12:53 of the third period gave the Manitoba Moose (19-25-4) a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones (24-16-9) Wednesday night before 3,990 at The Crown. The loss snapped a three-game Cincinnati win streak. Moose goalie Fred Brathwaite had the lone assist on the game-winning tally. Christie assisted on a first-period score by Craig Martin, and Brad Purdie's power play goal tied the score at 2-2 midway through the third period. Todd Simon, who started the game second in IHL total scoring with 18 goals and 47 assists, paced the Cyclones' attack by scoring in the first period and assisting on Doug MacDonald's second period goal. Brathwaite made 31 saves on 33 Cincinnati shots to post the win. Geoff Sarjeant turned away 25 of 28 attempts for the Cyclones.
Kansas City Blades 4, Quebec Rafales 3
QUEBEC CITY--Dean Sylvester's second goal of the game, at 2:20 of the third period, was the game-winner as the Kansas City Blades (21-21-7) defeated the Quebec Rafales 4-3 Wednesday before 5,267 at Le Colisee. Sylvester also put the Blades on the board 15:51 after the opening faceoff. Power play goals by Reggie Savage and Mike Craig gave the Blades a 3-1 advantage by the end of the second period. Defenseman Dean Chynoweth, signed by the Rafales last Friday, scored 2:38 into the game. Jason Ruff and new signee Martin Chouinard added third-period goals. Winning goalie Peter Skudra faced 31 shots and made 28 saves. Frederick Deschenes stopped 36 of 40 as Quebec (16-27-5) dropped their sixth straight.
Milwaukee Admirals 5, Utah Grizzlies 4
MILWAUKEE--Kelly Fairchild scored two goals and assisted on a third as the Milwaukee Admirals (27-19-3) beat the Utah Grizzlies 5-4 Wednesday before 7,482 at the Bradley Center. Mike Tomlak won the game at 1:33 of the third period. Martin Gendron turned Fairchild's assist into the Admirals' first goal, then teamed with Brent Peterson to set up Fairchild's pair of second-period tallies. Fred Knipscheer gave Utah (30-12-7) a short-lived lead with a power play goal 7:16 into the game. Greg Spenrath scored early in the second and assisted on a Vladmir Orszagh goal before the intermission. Gord Dineen netted Utah's final goal. Milwaukee goalie Danny Lorenz stopped 30 of the 34 shots he faced. Utah starter Scott LaGrand made 13 saves on 17 chances. Philippe DeRouville stopped seven of the Admirals' last eight shots, and suffered the loss.
Houston Aeros 4, San Antonio Dragons 2
HOUSTON--The Houston Aeros (32-13-5) scored three unanswered goals, two of them by Greg Hawgood, to take a 4-2 come-from-behind win over the San Antonio Dragons (14-31-5) Wednesday night. The Southwest Division-leading Aeros snapped a four-game skid in front of 6,433 at the Compaq Center. Brian Wiseman's 14th goal of the year, 2:18 into the third period, was the game-winner. Wiseman also assisted on a power-play tally by Mike Yeo in the second period. Hawgood scored in the second period, and in the final minute of the third. Daniel Shank, who had three goals and two assists against the Aeros on Tuesday night, scored on a second-period power play. John Purves had put the Dragons on the board earlier in the period. Ryan Bach picked up the win in goal, with 32 saves on 34 San Antonio shots. Steve Passmore turned away 25 of 28 for the Dragons.
