Las Vegas Film Critics Society becomes reality

"The time has finally come for Las Vegas to have an assembled voice on film," says LVFCS President Jeffrey K. Howard, who, along with David Neil, is one of the SUN's film critics, known as The Movie Guys. "This is the beginning of a grand tradition."
The society's inaugural Sierra Awards have been announced.
James Cameron's "Titanic" tops the list with four awards, including Best Picture. The LVFCS is also honoring filmmaker Woody Allen with its first Lifetime Achievement Award for his tremendous contribution to the world of cinema.
Following is a complete listing of Sierra Awards winners.
Best Picture: "Titanic" (Paramount Pictures)
Best Actor: Robert Duvall, "The Apostle" (October Films)
Best Actress: Helena Bonham Carter, "The Wings of the Dove" (Miramax Films)
Best Supporting Actor: Burt Reynolds, "Boogie Nights" (New Line Cinema)
Best Supporting Actress: Allison Elliot, "The Wings of the Dove" (Miramax Films)
Best Director: James Cameron, "Titanic" (Paramount Pictures)
Best Screenplay: Curtis Hanson and Brian Helgeland, "L.A. Confidential" (Warner Brothers)
Best Cinematography: Russell Carpenter, "Titanic" (Paramount Pictures)
Best Score: Philip Glass, "Kundun" (Touchstone Pictures)
Best Song: James Horner, "My Heart Will Go On" from "Titanic" (Paramount Pictures)
Best Foreign Language Film: "Shall We Dance?" Japan (Miramax Films)
Best Documentary: "Sick: The Life & Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist" (Cinepix)
Most Promising Actor: Matt Damon, "Good Will Hunting" and "The Rainmaker"
Most Promising Actress: Joey Lauren Adams, "Chasing Amy"
Lifetime Achievement Award: Woody Allen
