Psychiatrist appointed to Elko school board

Murad will succeed Ray Kendall, a social worker and former director of the Elko County Mental Health Center, who moved to Mesquite to open a new facility. Murad will join the board Jan. 27 and will serve the year remaining in Kendall's four-year term.
Murad, who recently completed a term as chief of staff at Elko General Hospital, said he applied for the post because he thought his experience working with children in his practice could be an asset and that having four children of his own persuaded him to get more interested in the schools.
He said he does not think there is anything fundamentally wrong with the school system, but added that he was surprised to be the only applicant for the opening, the Elko Daily Free Press reported.
