Schuft, one of seven applicants for the $12,000-a-year post, was sworn in immediately after his appointment on Thursday, the Ely Daily Times reported.
He succeeds G.L. Critchfield, who resigned in September five weeks after his appointment, saying that he had taken another job out of state, but adding that the job, which averages three cases a week, was boring.
Ron Niman then took over on a part-time basis, but also wanted out to concentrate on his Justice Court duties.
Schuft is a former parole and probation officer who recently has been working as a travel agent in Ely.
