Churchill county school enrollment declines

While earlier estimates showed a significant increase in the number of pupils by the year 2003, an updated report actually shows the number is declining, the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard reported on Saturday.
The district uses a five-year average for each grade level to estimate future enrollment figures. His year's numbers show that four of five elementary school grades either remained stable or declined. All six secondary school grades went down.
As a result, the earlier projection 14,036 pupils five years from now apparently will more realistically be only 11,188 pupils, a reduction of 2,848.
