CARSON CITY -- A ranking federal official will be in Las Vegas Monday to testify before the Senate Special Committee on Aging and to visit centers for the elderly.
Jeanette C. Takamura, sworn in as assistant secretary for aging in December, will be making her first state visit in her new role.
Takamura will talk about long-term care before the committee headed by Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev. She plans to visit the Cannon Center (340 N. 11th Street, at 2:30 p.m.) where 11 agencies deliver services to senior citizens. She will also visit the Hollyhock adult care program, adjacent to Cannon Center at 2 p.m.
On Tuesday, Takamura heads for Reno to again testify before Reid's committee and then visit the Washoe County Senior Center.
