NDT honors Hood as Woman of the Year
Friday, Jan. 9, 1998 | 10:52 a.m.
A resident of Las Vegas since 1977, when she became president of the Four Queens hotel-casino, Hood became involved in the community. She has served on the board of many community and civil organizations including the Nevada Resort Association, Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Las Vegas Partnership, Boy Scouts of America, and Opportunity Village Foundation. Since 1989, Hood has been a member of NDT's board of directors and executive committee, in addition, she served as chairman of the 1997 Black and White Ball.
In 1985, Hood was named president of Elsinore Corp., the parent company of the Four Queens and served until 1993. In 1994, she became a member of the board and consultant to American Casino Enterprises, a position she currently holds. She is also currently on the board of directors of Pioneer Citizens Bank.
This year, the Black and White Ball goes "Imperial," a theme to honor Hood as the 1998 Woman of the Year. The evening will begin with cocktails and a VIP reception followed by a Saks Fifth Avenue fashion show featuring Oscar de la Renta designs. After dinner, there will be a special performance by Nevada Dance Theatre with choreography by Artistic Director Bruce Steivel. Following will be an auction and raffle with items from Chanel, Escada, Cartier and El Portal, among others. Other speciality gifts to be given away include a cigar gift package, a golf package, Super Bowl tickets, and a trip to the wine country with a VIP tour compliments of Southern Nevada Wine and Spirits.
Woman of the Year tributes and awards will be presented followed by dancing with the Marty Mahoney Group.
Past Woman of the Year recipients include Kitty Rodman, 1997; Claudine Williams, 1996; Jan Laverty Jones, 1995; Phyllis McGuire, 1994; Yvonne Franchi, 1993; Christina Hixson, 1992; Barbara Gomes, 1991; Kathy Giovenco, 1990; Thalia Dondero, 1989; Marjorie Barrick, 1988; Parvin Modaber, 1987; Nancy Houssels, 1986; and Elaine Wynn, 1985.
