Storm brings scattered snow to the Sierra

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Friday for Lake Tahoe and Mono County, Calif.
By Friday evening, the system was expected to drop 4-8 inches of snow below 7,000 feet elevation and a foot or more above that, according to the weather service.
Rain was expected to fall Friday in northwest Nevada valleys, including Reno and Carson City.
"Most of the snow from the system should fall (Friday)," said weather service forecaster Mary Cairns. "It's still fairly warm so there should be some rain showers in Reno."
Most Lake Tahoe-area highways were open without controls Thursday evening.
But chains or snow tires were required on Highway 88 over Carson Pass and Nevada Route 431 over the Mount Rose Summit.
A chance of snow showers would linger into Saturday in the Lake Tahoe area, according to the weather service.
